Size, height and fixing - in that order

A piece that is right for the wall and wrong for the fixing still ends up on the floor. Four points before ordering.

  1. Aim for roughly two-thirds of the furniture width. Art above a sofa or bed looks undersized below about half the width.
  2. Centre at eye level, not ceiling level. Around 145-150 cm from the floor to the centre suits most rooms.
  3. Check the weight against your wall. Plasterboard needs an anchor; metal and glazed pieces are heavier than canvas of the same size.
  4. LED pieces need a socket within reach. Where a piece is mains-powered the page says so - measure to the nearest point before ordering.
